Azerbaijan National Anti-Doping Agency (AMADA)can learn from Danish experience of fighting doping in amateur sports. AMADA delegation participated in the international conference “Fitness Doping and Public Health” on October 23-24 in Copenhagen and held meetings with representatives of the Danish Anti-Doping Organization (ADD).
Conference covered a wide range of topics such as anabolic steroids and growth hormones supply to gyms and fitness centres, use among younger people, factors affecting consumption growth, threats to health, modern criminal distribution networks for steroids and growth hormones etc.
“We have similar problems in Azerbaijan. Spread of anabolic steroids among young people is especially disturbing. They are offered mainly in gyms and fitness centres. The enormous harm of anabolic steroids and growth hormones to human health is proved by numerous studies”, AMADA CEO Shafag Huseynli summed up the results of the visit.
According to her, ADD has an advanced experience in the fight against doping in amateur sports.
“We can learn a lot from Danish experience, and we are going to further counteract the spread of anabolic steroids. We actively cooperate with law enforcement agencies in this area”, said Sh.Huseynli.
AMADA exchanges information on suppliers and distributors of steroids and growth hormones with relevant government agencies. AMADA also intends to announce several proposals on tightening legislation related to the distribution of anabolic steroids and growth hormones in the country.
