Tahmina Taghi-zada, the Chief Executive Officer of the Azerbaijan National Anti-Doping Agency (AMADA), participated in a high-level panel discussion titled “Sport in the Shadow of COP29 – ‘Fit’ Solutions for Sustainable Movement.” The event, held as part of the 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, spotlighted the intersection of clean sport and environmental sustainability.
The panel, hosted at the Youth House in COP29’s Green Zone, brought together distinguished participants, including Elnur Mammadov, Head of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sports; Nasser Ayman Majali, Secretary General of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation; and Rafael Muela Pastor, General Manager of the Real Betis Foundation.
Moderated by Elnur Mammadov, the session featured an inspiring presentation by Dr. Taghi-zada, who outlined how anti-doping initiatives not only safeguard the integrity of sport but also align with global sustainability goals. Her remarks emphasized the shared principles of fairness, responsibility, and sustainability in promoting both clean sport and environmental protection.
Global leaders in climate action, such as Zach Lubin, Global Ambassador of the Blue Planet Alliance, and Patience Shumbusho, Founder and CEO of SECOTO International Green, also contributed to the discussion by presenting innovative climate solutions.
The panel addressed key themes, including integrating eco-friendly practices into sports, fostering sustainability, and promoting collaboration between sports and environmental stakeholders. Practical recommendations were made on adopting green event management strategies, encouraging athlete-led sustainability initiatives, and exploring ways for sports to actively contribute to global climate objectives.
The session underscored the essential role of sports in advancing clean and sustainable practices in alignment with COP29’s overarching goals. It highlighted the importance of collective action in supporting climate initiatives while maintaining the integrity of sports.
